Io was a peculiar and shy girl with green hair. Her hair unnatural hue of green was because she was engulfed by a Suiko Mushi, a traveling swamp. The Suiko Mushi saved Io when she was sacrificed by her village to become the bride of the swamp's spirit in order to prevent a flood. She then took up residence in the swamp and traveled with it until the Suiko's death. After the Mushi's death, Io began a new life in a nearby village. Her hair also reverted back to a normal black color.
